Dr. Tofflemire,
I don’t know how long Bernie has had this bump on his eye, but it seems to be getting a little bigger over the last few months. What is this?
Hi Ashley,
Unfortunately, we can’t know what it is without a biopsy. Don’t worry though, a biopsy of the conjunctiva is super easy and quick! I would be inclined to perform an “excisional biopsy,” kind of like if you had a suspicious mole removed from your skin. After application of topical anesthesia (“numbing eye drops”), the lesion could be dissected and likely removed in its entirety. No sutures, general anesthesia, or sedation required… in most cases.
